Going Halvsies with your Kid

For big purchases that your kid wants, have them pay for part of it. It could be half or something else you agree upon. We did this when I was a kid and we are now doing it with our kid. It’s wonderful to see in your child the pride, ownership, gratitude and fiscal understanding that grows through contributing. But of course, we adults have more money-making abilities than our kids, so it’s nice to help.

Today my kid used their carefully saved cat-sitting money to buy things for their room decor, then said, beaming “thank you thank you! We did it!!” Priceless.
